Hi Abby,
I attended the General Session and enjoyed listening to Curt Bunting. I ended up having lunch with him and we discussed the differences of salaries across state lines. He was very informative and I liked the idea of shared planning time. All of our grade level teachers have a shared planning time, however the Related Arts teachers only get to meet twice a month. The academic teachers have 2 planning periods ( 1 personal and 1 team) however the Related Arts teachers only have one.
After the General Session we meet briefly as a TIS group and then I attended "Be Our Guest" presented by Susan Rice. I like the idea of using a Service Guarantee with my students. I am going to integrate it with my current Classroom Management Plan.
Next, Scott Nash presented Open Office and Free Desktop Applications. WOW! Loved It! I us many of the applications he presented, however I learned about many more I can use in my classroom. I hope to get Steve to present at our school this year.
After lunch, the FACS teachers went to the Clay Center where we were meet by Lewis Ferguson who gave us an overview of what the Clay Center is about. Next, Donna and Susan presented how we can use PLC's with our students. Brandi and I suggested we use Blogspot for FAC's teacher networking. After the presentation on PLC's, Lewis gave us a guided tour of the Clay Center and then allowed us to explore on our own. The Clay Center is such a wonderful resource.
Today was very beneficial and informative. I plan to integrate many of the programs and resources presented today in my classes this year. I enjoyed networking with my fellow TIS participants and FACS instructors.
