Friday July 30 -- Conference Notes

The breakfast meeting hosted by the WVACTE was attended by some of those in attendance. The WVACTE leadership provided updates on the progress or lack of progress of membership in the state organization. It concerns me that as present members retire, the new CTE instructors do not see the need and/or to support the national and state CTE organization.
With the membership at the state level, the national organization will not have the financial and grass roots support to promote CTE to the political leaders in government.
Debra Kimbler presented to the Administrator affiliate the "GED Option." This program hopes to address the high rate of high school dropouts and give students a option to have a graduation credential. From Ms. Kimbler's presentation, the program sounds similar to a program that was offered in Cabell County during the late '80's and early '90's. Having the students combine a academic component with a CTE program.
In the closing session, Dr. D'Antoni elaborated on a 5 and 10 year vision. This vision was developed during the department's retreat last week. There was 6 key points that will assist the leadership in the planning stage of reform.

As for next week, I will be making the commute from Huntington and my cell is 304-544-9990.
