WV TIS-CTE: CTE Annual Conference, July 2010: "Part I: Please list all sessions you attended, along with the day and time they were presented. This would include general sessions. Part II..."
Hello Abby
Today I started at the general assembly 8:00 to 10:00 and listened to Curt from Sussex County talk about PLC's. Then we met as a TIS group. As soon as the TIS meeting was over I went to the food line and happened to be behind Dr. D'Antoni, she was very pleasant to talk to! The next thing I attended was the Business Ed. meeting where we discused treating our students as "customers". The theme was Be Our Guest and was very informative. At 11:15 I left the Business Ed. meeting and attended the Aerospace meeting with Captain Craddock. It was a little light on presntation, but it was very informative and the material is deffinateley something I will use with my classroom kids and my afterschool program! Then I went to lunch and was fortunate enough to have Curt and Gene Coulson accept our offer to eat lunch with us. The conversation was very stimulating and informative. After lunch I went to the business meeting where Kathy Mace gave a great talk about the future of Business education in the state of WV. When this was over at 3:00 we immediately started a discussion with the WVBEA and were informed about their mission, goals and the need to get new blood in the organization. My favorite part of the day was the session on treating the students as customers.

Hey , what do you think about treating our students as customers. I really liked this because I try to get to know my students and treat them with respect and try to meet them "where they're at" Funny though how times have changed and many young people in the work force do not act like "the customer is always right"... we can model this in our classrooms and teach students by our actions and hopefully change their thinking...
ReplyDeleteOnce again I really enjoyed the 2nd General Session. I felt it was wonderful how they actually incorporated an Vocational Administrator and how he makes his programs successful. Next I attended Be Our Guest with Susan Rice which was informative and energetic...as usual coming from Susan. My absolute favorite session so far was the Open Source and Free Desktop Applications presented by Scott Nash. He was a wealth of knowledge and can't wait to get his email with all of the websites for us to use and they are FREE!!!! I was SUPPOSE to go to the Racetrack, but something happened and we ended up at the Charleston Minor League Baseball field and had lunch and listened to the GM on how they market the Baseball team and complex....all in all it was an educational and enlightening day!
ReplyDeleteI attended the 2nd General Session and agreed with Curt about shared planning time. However, the related arts teachers at my school only get to meet three times a month, whereas the CORE teachers meet once a day.
ReplyDeleteNext, I attended the “Be Our Guest” session with Susan Rice and enjoyed her upbeat attitude. I will probably integrate her contract into my Classroom Management plan this year.
Scott Nash’s presentation on Open Source and Free Desktop Applications was AWESOME. I already use some of his resources, however his website has a wealth of other resources I will use. Finally, the FACS teachers went on to the Clay Center and discussed using PLC’s in our classroom and then we toured the facility. Brandi and I were asked to create a blog for the FACS teachers to utilize.
