December Blog--Sharon Cole
OK, Thanks to Abby I am finally able to blog.....not sure what happened but I think I am up and running now!!!! December was a CRAZY month with the weather, the holidays and most of all Technology....LOL!!! I was kept busy with LiveGrades and our school webpage, which is updated daily. I have started my students on KeyTrain to help them prepare for the WorkKeys test, I did attend a training this week and found out that as long as you are only registering your students on KeyTrain that you are still able to give the test.....if you are actually working with the students on individual questions then you are not allowed to admister the test!!!! But anyway December seems like such a long time ago as we are now preparing for our FETC trip which will be here soon! So looking forward to seeing everyone in Florida!!!!

December 2010
Worked with Key Train on-line to get students ready for the Work Keys tests. We are testing after each course this year to hopefully attain a better result. I received the mimeo suite and am trying to improve my skills with this technology. Using access emails (set up for students) to discuss class work during snow days. Mixed results with this so far.
See you in Florida.

December Blog--D. Smith
Hello Everyone,
Sorry I'm behind with my blog postings. During the month of December, I have continued to assist some of the science teachers on my wing with technology issues. . . PowerPoint presentations, online videos, and other minor computer issues. I have also assisted some substitute teachers with technology lessons.
During the month of December, I covered the Excel unit with my high school students. Before Christmas, my students enjoyed taking pictures with my digital camera during class. We then took those pictures and put them into a class video. It was so much fun, they decided to include the science class next door!
Also, during December I was busy completing my Intel Action Research project. I decided to teach a unit in my Intro. to Business class on credit. I tried to incorporate several forms of formative assessment into that unit. I found this to be quite a different approach to teaching for me.
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in Florida. Can't wait to get into a warmer climate. I will be flying with three of my TIS mates. See you then.

Lisa Kerns-December Blog Post
The month of December seemed to disappear in a blink of an eye. Being the technology coordinator is taking up much of my lunch, planning time, and many hours after and before school. This job should be a separate position. My phone rings at least 3 times a class period. I know is it my job, however the interruptions to my classroom are becoming a problem. I am planning to meet with each grade level team and explain the process of reporting technology problems-AGAIN. We have an online reporting program in Harrison County and our teachers need to take the time to use it. Once I receive the report I decide whether I can take care of it or if I need to send it on to a technician. Many teachers do not want to take the time to fill out the form and send it to me. I try my best to deal with a problem the day I find out about it, however some teachers want their problem dealt with immediately and that is not always possible, especially when I am in the middle of teaching a lesson. I have taken a lot of deep breaths this month and continue to work on building my patience with some of my fellow co-workers. As a classroom teacher, I understand the importance of technology problems, however I am just one person and I don't think cloning is a possibility at this point.
I have continued to help teachers with integrating technology in the following ways:
I have continued to help teachers with integrating technology in the following ways:
- Updating the Technology Resource drive
- Acuity
- WVWrites
- techSteps
- Finding interactive websites for each subject area
- Writing a Technology Newsletter for teacher use
- Setting up workshops for teachers--I have set up a Clicker workshop with e-Instruction for January.
- Our grading program now has a lesson plan component which I have presented to the principal. We plan to implement it for the next school year.
- Updating teacher webpages
My students have been utilizing the flip cameras and Windows Moviemaker and creating short movies about themselves. I continue to meet with my student technology team every Thursday morning before school. They are learning how to keep their computers free of spyware and viruses. They have also been assigned a teacher to assist with technology issues.

Dec Tech Report
As "TIS", I was pulled in asked by my director to help write and submit at last minute amendment to our CEFP plan. This amendment was to convert a under-utilized industrial sewing lab into student computer lab for use by all students but especially the highwall labs (welding, building construction, automotive)--those labs not conducive to computer use. The SBA approved $303K grant for this lab on Dec. 13th! Everyone is excited.
We, the staff, also worked on Edline and discussed posting assignments, news items and grades. Sometimes this is like pulling teeth on an alligator. Some teachers are self-motivated, others need adminstrative intervention and still others need a higher power to motivate them.

I wished for snow on my birthday and it started snowing December 5 and just kept snowing and snowing. My main "TIS" activities during our short time at school included helping teacher find things on their computer or jump drive. We had a lot of 2-hour delays which are very hectic. I am still trying to install programs on the computers in the laptop cart. We MIGHT get to use them second semester. A lot of things I wanted to do with my students had to be cancelled for postpone due to lack of computers. I used responders with my students. I send out short messages to the other teachers with responders encouraging them to use them, suggestions on how to use them, and offering my help. I am still putting messages on the electronic sign and praying to don't make any spelling errors.
What technology activities were you involved in during the month of October?
What technology activities did you share with your students? Other CTE educators?
Good morning all!
The month of December was short! With the Christmas break and a few snow days thrown in we only had about 12 days in class. Our school has received 28 nearly new laptops and we have been discussing how to best make use of this important resource. I have introduced the use of photostory in three classes and it is slowly being accepted as an alternative to the overuse of PowerPoint. I am involved with a Putnam County initiative called the Business Symposium and have been able to teach the students about using technology in the business world. We will present this morning, in fact, at the Putnam County Board office in front of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Wish us luck! I have started my virtual class room and I hope to be able to bring it online during the first couple of weeks of the new semester. I cannot wait to see everyone in Orlando at the end of the month.

December Blog - Janie Spahr
December was very busy as our CTE Lab teacher and I coordinated with all the CTE teachers and gave all CTE 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students the Quick Guide part of KeyTrain in preparation for KeyTrain assignments and the WorkKeys test. All students had to be assigned user names and passwords before the pretest. Since the pre-test we have been showing teachers and students how to do the KeyTrain tutorials at school and setting them up so that they may do the lessons at home also. I found out also that there are printable workbooks from the KeyTrain sites for students who don't have computers at home.
Chuck, Jill and I then attended Bodie's Intel training at Flatwoods. We learned so much and had a great time despite the snow, cold weather, and missing snow days at our schools! Attending that class has helped me in so many areas in so many ways. We even set up our own blogs. I came back to Preston and wanted to do Google Apps with my students and guess what--it was blocked!
I've been helping teachers set up their Webtops and showing them how to use them. I would really like to get this going schoolwide for our students, and get rid of jump drives!
My CSOs require integration of software, so my students have been working on integrating/linking Word and Excel projects.
We had 5 snow days, an early out, and a few two-hour delays plus Christmas break, so we missed quite a bit of instructional time during December. However, I really learned alot at Flatwoods and made some new friends and contacts that should be helpful to me in the future. Next semester, I will be teaching Web Page Publishing. If you have any good resources or ideas for that class, please let me know.
Happy New Year--25 days til FETC!
