The sessions I attended today:
First General Session - 10 am to Noon
Making a Difference Together - 1-1:15 pm
Put Your Toe in the Water - 1:15 - 2 pm
Making the Connection 2-2:45 pm
Don't Get Caught Holding the Bag 3-4pm
The multimedia presentation at the beginning of the general session was a good idea. Something like that could be compiled on a school or county wide basis. Dr. D'Antoni's presentation was very good and held my attention. The techademics she mentioned is something we are trying to do at MCTEC with the technical high school concept. The different personality types activity in the second session was interesting and maybe be something that could be done with students. The third session provided interesting information about student organizations. I liked hearing from administrators, teachers and students. I found the chart in the next session to be confusing. They did provide a hand out about using CTSO's to connect to curriculum standards. The last session was the one I was looking forward to but was greatly disappointed. The speaker said "ah" about a thousand times and many of the teachers seemed to know much more about the subject than the lawyer who was speaking. The only thing new I learned from that session is that bullying by text message needs to be addressed.
I agree about the text bullying and fully intend to discuss this with my students! The guy did not mention sexting...we had a student that got expelled last year because of a picture a girl sent him...she did not get in trouble.
ReplyDeleteWell here I go again. I think I forgot to hit post comment.
ReplyDeleteSussex I realized how Morgantown High is on track with all our PLC work. We should collaborate with our MTEC since our schools are in different locations..
"As long as you are green you are growing, When you are ripe you start to rot" Ray Kroc
Susan Rice discussed talk your talk and I like to "walk my talk" she started by apologizing for rushing through an activity yesterday. I respect that and it reminded me of how we need to stay "real" for our students. She used the cheers theme to say how we all like others to know our name...is the customer...always right???lol!
Scott Nash was a plethra of tech knowledge and I am excited to get all the sites he discussed and yet very anxious to make the time to utilize and incorporate into my lessons and life.
Lastly, I went to the CORE Center For Organ Recovery
www.CORE.ORG they service over 6 million people. 108,000 people in WV need an organ. 90% agree and yet less than 30% registered on license. Go to that site to register and it takes 90 seconds you need you last 4 digits of social and your drivers license number. Then we watched a tear jerker about Jason Ray or Grey. Former Tarheels mascot who donated his organs and saved four others and his tissue saved even more.
You brought up something I was going to touch on but forgot. The Techademics where we might have the ability to give math and science credits which are imbeded into your program. This is a must for us that we get this done soon. I was part of the initial phase of matching our class maths with existing math CSOs. If you ever get to participate in this I recommend it highly.
ReplyDeleteDennison reflection 8/2-8/3
ReplyDeletePod casting White boards Responders ePortfolios and WV writes. All familiar in terms but not so much in action. I use beyond question responders in my class and now I know how much the students like being a part of and seeing results instantly...I will use them even more and am hoping to put exam view questions on BQ.
Pod casting is the bomb...so I hope my students will think so.
I was surprised that my eportfolio was already set up and confused too.
wv writes was good but confusing...things like that always are, to me, unless it is when it is time to put it into practice.
Abby updates Tuohy Prezi SAS
Thank you Abby for some answered questions and the time to work on our project. Tom (my hubby)
and I believe in miracles too and so Mr. Tuohy just reinforced the cheerful giving...
Prezi will be my new pp intro and I had to do sas again to remember all the great stuff...though I am not a TIS yet. I will be reminding my fellow teachers of some excellent lessons.
I think I am missing out on a pedicure with the girls!
