I really liked the Audacity training. I just might venture into a podcast this school year. I am enjoying the photo activity. The electronic portfolio was a bit much to wrap my warped mind around...I hope that it comes together! THe camera will be greatly used! Thanks WVDE! I have clickers at my school, but have never used them. Why? I don't know, but I WILL use them this year!!!! Brandi Ammons
Well once again today has turned out to be another informative and energizing day.....I believe the session on Podcasting was my most favorite session and the ePortfolios session scared me to death...just hoping it all comes together. Whiteboards was an interesting session and I am looking forward to working with my whiteboard this school year. WV Writes was a good session, but unfortunately in my school only the English teachers give these tests and I am planning on passing the information along to our English Department Head. Looking forward to tomorrow's activities!!!
Got to the Civic Center at 8:00 and got my new camera! Yea. Then I went to welcome with Vicki Allen A.D. Office of instructional technology. The next session I went to was the new Thinkfinity website presented by Mark Moore. This session was very enlightening, unfortunately, it was too short to explore the actual site, but rather we were given a broad synopsis of the site. The next session was the camera introduction presented by Mary Purdue. She was very knowledgeable and engaging, however, I have been using digital cameras at home and in my classroom for several years now, so the information was a little redundant. This was followed up by The digital project introduction by Ms. Wilson, although the session was enjoyable, I came away with more questions than answers about the goals of the project. Then I went to the Hands-on Podcasting session presented by Anne Meadows. This was my favorite session for the day. The information was delivered in a hands-on, interactive method and I learned many new tricks to have my students incorporate into class projects. Then we broke for lunch. The next session I went to was the ePortfolio session with Bruce Cole. The information was good but due to technical difficulties, there was very little hands-on time, which hampered the learning and enjoyment of the material. The next session dealt with the WV Writes information and did not have a direct impact on my duties at this time. It sounds like they have made some very beneficial changes to the program. However, I will withhold judgment until I hear feedback from teachers and students in a real-world application. The last session I went to was the interactive white board presentation. I really liked this session; however, it made me even more depressed that we have mnemonics boards in my school instead of a true SMART board! All in all this was a great day; I hope the rest of the conference continues like today!
Todays sesions were very informative. My favorite session was Podcasting. The hands on approach made learning Audacity fun. The last session on WV Writes could have been more effective it we could have used our computers. ThinkFinity gave me some ideas to share with my staff; however, I simply could not keep up with the pace of the presenter.
Hooray for Kodak! I have really liked the new camera. I am going to try the wireless feature asap. The WV Writes was confusing to me because they talked a lot about what happened last year, & I wasn't involved with that at all. The white board session really piqued my interest. It will be fun to incorporate it into my lessons. EPortfolio will be a pain, but I think it will be worth it for the learning experience. Anne Meadows really helped a lot. I have used Audacity before, but she gave me a lot of new tips that will help. Do they have any lunch menus that is different? Just wondering.
Today was full of wonderful sessions. I loved receiving my new camera and started taking pictures as soon as the batteries were in. Mary Purdue’s presentation on the digital cameras was very informative and I plan on using parts of her PowerPoint in my 8th grade Computer Skills class. Podcasting was my favorite session and even though I have used Audacity before, I enjoyed the review. Bruce Cole’s presentation on ePortfolios was helpful. I had already started to work on my portfolio but had many questions which he answered. The WV Writes session was also informative but not very interactive. I did like the information sheet which was provided with basic log on information for my school. The website does look much more user friendly than Writing Roadmap.
