To All the members of the CTE Co-Hort:
I am sorry that I was not able to join everyone at the Technology Conference in Orlando last week. I had a MRI prior to Christmas and it showed that I had problems with my L3, L4, L5 and S1 discs. In really simple terms my best friend and family doc called me with the report and he said "my back was Jacked"
In mid January I had a consult with the neurosurgeon and he scheduled my surgery February 2.
So while ya'll were enjoying the sites and sounds of Orlando last week, I was in room 4701 of Cabell Huntington hospital listing to the sounds of call bells at the nurses station and calling for pain meds.
I am home now in recovery mode and as Abby told me, I will have time to get caught up on my TIS stuff.
As for my update in TIS, I have been involved in utilizing the Thinkfinity website as a platform for the courses that I teach at WVU TECH. We had problems developing the online classes because we serve actually two groups of students. Those taking the courses for undergraduate credit could use the WVU ECampus Blackboard but those taking graduate credit with our program are registered with Marshall University. Heck Marshall and WVU can not get together on the football field without a Governor get involved so it was impossible to use the ECampus format or the WVU TECH staff having access for WEB CT at Marshall.
Using the Thinkfinity, we can do some of the same things that we want but we do not have a online testing capabilities for the courses. With Thinkfinity we have utilized CTED 308/ATE 548 as the class. But that also involved individualized training in person, over the phone and with electronic correspondence. And this with 38 teachers in 17 different schools.
So as Abby said, I will have time over the next 4-6 weeks as I recover to get work on my online responsibilities.
